CONVECTION VAPORIZERS

In evaporators with a convection method of heat transfer, the plant material does not come into contact with the heating element, but is heated by the hot air passing through it, which is produced in a separate heating chamber located at the bottom of the device.
There are two types of convection vaporizers: active and passive. Active vaporizers have an internal fan that first drives air through the heating element, then the air heated to the exact temperature is passed through herbs (concentrates) and then the resulting vapor is forced into a plastic bag or into a flexible hose, from which the user takes inhalations. Passive vaporizers do not have a fan, so the heated air passes through the herbs and produces vapor only when you inhale through the mouthpiece. Some of the best such vaporizers are Firefly 2, Mighty, Crafty, Boundless CFV.

The heating mechanism of convection evaporators is made of ceramic, metal and heat-resistant quartz glass. For example, the heating element is made of electrically conductive ceramic and placed in a chamber (air duct) made of stainless steel or aluminum. The heating element is the heart of any vaporizer, but we will cover this in another article.

Pros of convection vaporizers

• Usually technologically more advanced.
• Hot air freely passes through the ground herbs, heats them evenly and releases the active ingredients efficiently, without the risk of burning.
• The convection heating method eliminates shadow areas, allowing hot air to reach all parts of the plant. Therefore, there is no need to open the device and stir the plant material during the vaping process.
• They have a wider operating temperature range that can be adjusted with an accuracy of 1 degree (even during steam production). This is especially useful when setting temperatures for different herbs and substances.

Cons

Slower warm up to optimum temperature (although this can vary greatly between models).
It takes more time to warm up the substance and vaporize.

They have many parts in their design, they are more difficult to manufacture, therefore they have a high cost and expensive repairs (replacement of missing or broken parts).
Since both methods of heat transfer (conduction and convection) have their pros and cons, some manufacturers have begun to produce hybrid portable vaporizers that contain both methods of heat transfer. Thus, manufacturers of evaporators decided to "kill two birds with one stone" - to take advantage of both systems and give the user all the best that is in conduction and convection heating.
